Postpartum depression (PPD) and pregnancy related mood disorders are more common than many people think. Ten to fifteen percent of women experience a mood disorder during their pregnancy, and up to 85% of new moms experience the “Baby Blues”. Up to 20% of new mothers experience a PPD, which often affects their ability to cope.
I provide mental health care for issues related to all stages of the reproductive cycle; from pre-pregnancy to menopause. This would include issues that arise around pregnancy and the perinatal/postpartum period– as well as infertility, miscarriage, birth trauma, birth loss and IUFD, pregnancy complications, NICU stays, or having a child with a serious illness or complex needs. I also offer support for PMS, PMDD, and perimenopause.
Counselling for Dads
I provide counselling to all genders and welcome dads as well. Men can experience depression and anxiety related to the birth of the child. This may be related to sleep deprivation, role and relationship transitions, witnessing birth trauma, financial and other stressors, or grief related to miscarriage or the loss of a child.
